Bernhard Theater

Bernhard Theater is the home of the Skidmore Theater Department.

In addition to faculty offices, classrooms, and studios for course and student productions, it houses:

• Main theater: with 300 seats, it is the site of most major productions
• Black box theater: A small theater for experimental productions

Disabled parking is available is across the street in the Filene lot. The building is fully accessible.

History

Janet Kinghorn Bernhard '26, while a senior at Skidmore, became the first editor of the Skidmore News. In the 1960s, she and her husband, Arnold, (a skidmore trustee) committed themselves to building a theater on the new campus. They were both on hand in 1987 to see their long-awaited dream come true, at the dedication of the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater.
