History
The Surrey is one of the few
remaining buildings from the original Woodlawn Estate. It was
built in 1918 as "Broadview Lodge," modeled after an
English country manor. In the 1940s, it served briefly as the
Brown School for Boys. In 1949, it reopened as the Surrey Inn,
a hotel for summer visitors. The College acquired the building
in 1967, and Anne Palamountain made its restoration a personal
initiative during her husband's presidency at the College.
In the summer of 1999, to honor
longtime trustee and benefactor Susan Kettering Williamson 59,
Skidmore renamed the mansion the Surrey Williamson Inn.
