Teaching Museum and Gallery
The Frances Young Tang Teaching
Museum and Art Gallery is the newest addition to the Skidmore
campus. Dedicated in the fall of 2000, it showcases both locally
curated and visiting exhibitions, and houses classrooms, space
for the Skidmore art collection, and offices.
The building is fully accessible,
with reserved parking in both the Case Center lot to the north
and West lot to the southwest.
History
The museum was founded by a donation
from Oscar Tang, a New York City investment manager and philanthropist,
and named for his late first wife, Frances Young Tang '61. Oscar
Tang is also the father of Kristen Tang '92.
A native of Shanghai, with a
Yale B.S. and a Harvard M.B.A., Oscar Tang founded the investment
firm Reich & Tang, which later combined with Nvest. He is
now a private investor and chair of KOA Holdings. He is a longtime
trustee of the China Institute of New York City; a founder of
the Committee of 100, a national organization committed to Asia-America
understanding; and a trustee of, and art donor to, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, where a new gallery for Chinese art was recently
named for Frances Young Tang.
