Van
Lennep Riding Center
The Van Lennep Riding Center
includes 68 box stalls along with paddocks and both indoor and
outdoor rings. The Center frequently hosts riding competitions
throughout the year.
A College-owned wilderness
area stretches behind the stables and is used for field studies,
hiking and skiing.
Disability Access
As a one-story facility, the
riding center is mostly accessible, though it is not generally
equipped with the special accessories needed for disabled riding.
History
Completed in 1970, the riding
center is named for Frances and Frederick Van Lennep, parents
of champion rider Fredericka Van Lennep (Caldwell) '72. In the
1940s, the Van Lennep family renovated the historic Castleton
Farm into a center for breeding and training race horses. Long
associated with the equestrian arts, Skidmore is most grateful
to the Van Lenneps' generosity in supporting this program.
