Graduation Guidelines

This notice is directed to students who hope to graduate in May 2008. Skidmore's commencement ceremonies are set for Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Receiving this notice does not necessarily mean that you are eligible to graduate in May and participate in the May commencement. Please talk with your advisor to confirm your status.

TO GRADUATE IN MAY AND TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MAY 17TH COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY, YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS BY FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2008.

To complete all degree requirements, you must:

a) Submit your degree plan and final project description to the UWW Faculty Committee and receive their approval.

b) Finish and document all learning experiences in your degree plan. It is necessary that the Instructor Evaluation of Student Learning (or an official transcript) and the Student Evaluation of Learning be on file in the UWW office in order for a learning experience to be complete for any courses through the Fall 2007 semester. Spring 2008 courses require a grade.

c) Complete and submit your Final Project and receive positive assessments of that project. The assessment process may require three to four weeks. You need approval from both your Faculty Advisor and Academic Advisor in order for us to send your project out for assessment. Three copies of your Final Project must be submitted to UWW no later than Tuesday, April 15, 2008.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Preparing a Degree Plan and Final Project Description takes considerable preparation time. If you hope to graduate this May and have not yet presented your degree plan and final project description to the UWW Faculty Committee, you should be in touch with your Academic Advisor.
  • The Final Project, which receives six (6) semester hours of credit, is a major project, requiring substantial time to complete. Please plan accordingly.

Please contact your Academic Advisor as soon as possible with any questions that you may have. In rare circumstances, students may petition the Director of UWW to participate in graduation ceremonies even though all course documentation is not finalized. Talk with your advisor.

The following dates are for your reference:

  • Tuesday, April 15, 2008: Last date to submit your Final Project if you plan to graduate in May and participate in the May 17, 2008 ceremonies.
  • Friday, May 9, 2008: Date by which all learning experiences on your degree plan must be documented and positive assessments must be on file for your Final Project.

Skidmore confers degrees in November, March, and May. If you need to receive your degree at a time other than in May, contact your Academic Advisor for the necessary timeline for your desired date.
